Experience the power of Seeing Through Photography at our first ever Ephemere Photo Fest. From October 1st to 12th, 2025, join us at Gallery Conceal Shibuya in Tokyo to immerse yourself in a world of visual storytelling and printed photography.

  • We are proud to partner with the Sonntag Grant for Photography, a new annual award that supports FLINTA (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender) artists. This grant awards one photographer €3,000 to develop a project, and we are thrilled to help them find a global community.

  • As a gesture of this partnership, the Sonntag Grant has generously offered 5 free submission codes for our community. All you have to do to receive one is to fill out our RSVP form and attend EPF in person.

  • The codes will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis at the gallery. It’s our way of encouraging you to take your work to the next level while supporting the Sonntag Grant.

    To Make A Photography Exhibition From Scratch You Must First Invent The Universe

    Paris-based American photographer Jordan Reyes' debut exhibition wrestles with the unknowable through mixed media. Drawing from his books, he explores untethering and isolation, finding reorientation through humor, animals, and wonder.

2—Experience visual storytelling in motion with our Slideshows program. These dynamic projections feature curated photo essays and projects from international collectives and artists.

  • Dispatches from the Region

    This program presents a curated series of slideshows by Objectifs (Singapore), offering a vital glimpse into contemporary photography in Southeast Asia. It features works by Kaleb Sitompul, Mai Nguyên Anh, Lê Nguyên Phương, Sarah Isabelle Tan, and Shwe Wutt Hmon, all past recipients of the Objectifs Documentary Award.

  • I/Land

    Featuring 42 photographers, this program gives the viewer a glimpse of images from the Philippines and how photographers reflect and navigate life and explore various dimensions of human experience and natural phenomena in the archipelago. Images that speak of isolation, the impact of environmental and social dynamics, and the significance of personal and spiritual spaces, I/Land presents visual narratives that reflect the Filipino spirit of independence.

  • Remember When I Told You Everything

    London-based photographer Paula Rae Gibson's heartfelt slideshow, Remember When I Told You Everything, is an intimate tribute to her late best friend, Sue. Combining images, music, and memory, the film explores their twenty-year friendship and the unconditional love they shared.

  • Ephemere Photo Journal

    Introducing the inaugural print issue of the Ephemere Photo Journal, a landmark publication featuring exclusive articles, special features, and selected photo essays.

    Designed by renowned artist Wuthipol Ujathammarat and brought to life in cooperation with the esteemed Kyoto Shimbun Printing, EPJ will serve as a new cornerstone for our community.

  • Ephemere Photo Library

    The Ephemere Photo Library is a temporary and traveling archive that explores the beautiful paradox of the physical book as both a permanent record and a fragile, ephemeral object.

    This living, moving catalog showcases a diverse collection of books and zines from Ephemere's own titles and artists worldwide, connecting them with new audiences at various events and exhibitions.

  • Photobook Launches

    Witness the debut of new photobook titles, including solo publications by Jordan Reyes, Paula Rae Gibson, and many more.

    We'll also launch compelling group publications like Eroding Forms, a special collaboration with Alternative Processes.

4—Engage in hands-on learning through specialized Workshops led by inspiring artists and brands, providing distinct opportunities for creative exploration and skill development.

  • Corrupting the Image

    Mentor: Andie Riekstina (visiting from Berlin, Germany)

    This workshop challenges the conventional idea of a photograph, exploring it as a mutable medium. Participants will engage in experimental analog and digital practices to rethink what a photograph can be.

    Fee: $50 or ¥7,000
    Class Size: 8 participants only
    Languages: English, German, Latvian, and Russian

  • Intuitive Photo Sequencing

    Mentor: Clay Mills (visiting from Chicago, Illinois, USA)

    Focus on the art of sequencing and editing a body of work into a cohesive narrative. This hands-on session helps photographers build relationships between images and harness their innate artistic intuition

    Fee: $100 or ¥15,000
    Class Size: 6 participants only
    Languages: English with simultaneous Japanese translation

  • I Photograph What I Want To See

    Mentor:Jordan Reyes (visiting from Paris, France)

    This 3-day intensive workshop is a deep dive into honing a personal photographic methodology. Create a sustainable and honest practice by focusing on work that feels true to yourself, rather than seeking external validation.

    Fee: $250 or ¥35,000
    Class Size: 4 participants only

  • Polaroid Lifts

    Mentor: Chiara Salvi of Alternative Processes (visiting from Italy)

    This workshop explores an experimental photographic process that redefines what a photograph can be. Participants will learn to transfer instant photo emulsions onto new surfaces, creating unique, transformed artworks.

    Fee: $35 or ¥5,000
    Class Size: 8 participants only

5—Gain insights from leading voices in photography and publishing during our series of Artist Talks, featuring key individuals shaping the contemporary visual landscape in Japan and beyond.

  • Remember When I Told You Everything

    In this talk, photographer Paula Rae Gibson will share how she created her latest photobook, a tribute to her best friend. Through a short film, she will delve into the personal process of making images in the darkroom and explore how her work uses music and memory to capture a relationship of pure and unconditional love.

  • Most People Are Winging It, And I’m Most People, Too

    In this talk, visiting artist Jordan Reyes will detail his journeys in writing, music, and photography – how becoming familiar with the commercial, critical, and artistic sides of each medium points to parallel methodologies, despite conventional wisdom noting their differences. He will also talk about his anti-exceptionalist take on artistry, becoming your best teacher, and trusting your intuition above guidance from others.

  • The Printing of Ephemere Photo Journal

    Yoshihiko Okazaki and Hanako Hayashi of Kyoto Shimbun Printing provide an insight into the making of the Ephemere Photo Journal. Through the medium of film, they present the printing process — from data checks and color proofing to the final newspaper presentation — illuminating how this long-established medium can be reimagined in innovative ways within contemporary creative practice.

  • Community – A New Way to Discover Photo Exhibitions in Tokyo

  • Alternative Processes and Eroding Forms

    In this talk, Alternative Processes founder Chiara Salvi explores alternative photographic processes as living, transitional practices—where sustainability, materiality, and imperfection guide creation.   • Expressing Zen Through Visual Media

    Zen priest and photographer Glen Snyder will provide a brief overview of the Zen tradition and its surprising relevance to contemporary photography. He will discuss how concepts from ancient Buddhist scriptures, written long before the advent of the camera, can inform and deepen our practice as modern photographers.

    In this talk, writer and visual poet Zoria Petkoska explores the rich relationship between image and text.
