Ephemere Photo Journal

Ephemere Photo Journal •

At Ephemere, we believe photography is not just seen, but read. The Ephemere Photo Journal is our dedicated space for critical essays, personal narratives, and visual dialogues. To serve both the timelessness of the physical object and the immediacy of global conversation, we publish in two formats.

  • The Print Edition

Anchoring the fleeting in a tangible object.

    • Rooted in Ephemerality: While the journal explores the vast concept of the ephemeral, every annual volume is anchored by a specific sub-theme that guides the curation.

    • Crafted in Japan: Produced in collaboration with Kyoto Shimbun Printing, each issue is a tactile experience. We champion the permanence of paper—this edition is never digitized, and designed to be held, collected, and preserved.

    • The Deep Dive: A space for exclusive content that demands a slow read. Each volume features long-form essays, intimate artist interviews, and expansive photo essays.

  • The Online Edition

The living archive, hosted on Substack.

    • Global Immediacy: A continuous stream of content connecting the Ephemere community worldwide, bridging the gap between our annual print releases.

Three Editorial Pillars: We structure our online coverage around three key areas: Features provide inside access to Ephemere events and news; Perspectives offer critical essays from guest writers; and Stories showcase visual narratives directly from the community.

    • The Conversation: A dynamic, responsive space for dialogue, feedback, and discovering new voices.

Our journal shares behind-the-scenes stories of collaborations, providing exclusive insights into the artists and projects that we support. Interviews with photographers and event highlights connect readers with the world of visual storytelling. We offer a detailed look at the creative process and community engagement.

We amplify the voices of photographers and writers who combine storytelling with visual art. We feature artists beyond our scope if their work aligns with our mission and vision. This space fosters deeper exploration of photography’s impact and encourages connections within the artistic community.

Contributing to our Journal allows sharing voices with a broader creative audience. We support underrepresented perspectives from photographers, writers, or both. Involvement facilitates engagement with fellow artists and readers, expanding reach and contributing to thoughtful discussions on photography.
