At the very heart of the festival is our deep dedication to printed matter as a permanent home for photography. This core program specifically features our Ephemere-published titles, the highly anticipated Ephemere Photobook Grant shortlist and winner, and the second volume of the Ephemere Photo Journal.

Serving to beautifully complement our printed releases, these transient gallery spaces invite the public to engage directly with meaningful images. Featuring the Ephemere Photobook Exhibition alongside other curated image-based showcases, our walls act as a dynamic visual extension of the narratives held within our books.

The festival goes far beyond the printed pages and gallery walls to focus deeply on the diverse people behind the lens. Through immersive workshops, inspiring artist talks, and intimate local meetups, we gather together to exchange ideas, foster genuine dialogue, and build lasting global camaraderie.

For our thirteenth open call, we are looking for cohesive triptychs that speak to one another under the overarching theme of "Triplicities."

Selected artists will be featured in a special group publication and a dedicated gallery exhibition.

To fuel this production, this opportunity requires a submission fee to help cover administrative, curation, design, and printing costs.

Fresh off the recently concluded showcase in Kyoto for KG+, we are expanding our traveling library for a dedicated EPF Photobook Exhibition.

We are looking for new titles from around the world to celebrate during the festival.

This opportunity includes a free digital pre-selection phase, after which invited artists pay a participation fee to cover logistics and physical handling.

Join us for an intensive 5-day masterclass co-led by Ephemere founder Anne Murayama and visual artist Junko Kaisato.

Designed for artists with an active body of work, this program guides a select cohort of 6 to 8 participants through constructing a tactile photobook dummy, concluding with a live presentation and exhibition during the EPF 2026.

Application is free, with tiered tuition rates applied upon acceptance. Because this is an intensive, in-person studio workshop, your physical attendance in Tokyo is required.

We are selecting nine artists to create a balanced visual dialogue across the gallery walls and within an accompanying photobook.

Curated by Anne Murayama and assisted by Alfred Ong, our team fully manages all production, professional printing, framing, and installation for a seamless artist experience.

Application is free, with an all-inclusive production fee applied only upon selection.

Grounded in the Japanese concept of “omokage”—the lingering trace left after a disappearance—this workshop led by Copenhagen-based artist Sara Bensaltana explores the unseen narratives of anonymous photographs sourced from Japanese flea markets.

Through intuitive observation, discussion, and reflective writing, attendees engage with found imagery and assemble a custom A3 folded fanzine.

The session encourages a contemplative, slower approach to image reading, transforming forgotten visual fragments into poetic personal reflections on memory, loss, and the material life of photographs.

Led by Tokyo-based photographer Karina Saputri, this beginner-friendly workshop introduces participants to cyanotype, one of photography's earliest alternative printing methods.

Attendees learn the fundamentals of this historic process while transforming botanical materials, found objects, or custom digital negatives into two unique handmade prints. Working with pre-coated paper, sunlight, and water, participants experience the magical moment their compositions develop into rich Prussian blue images.

Designed for creative enthusiasts seeking a slower, tactile approach to image-making, this hands-on session provides all necessary materials and practical knowledge to continue experimenting independently at home.

Guided by Portuguese artist Emilia Lloret, this tactile workshop revisits the anthotype—one of photography’s earliest, eco-friendly processes.

Participants learn to extract light-sensitive emulsions from everyday botanical materials such as turmeric, berries, and flowers to coat watercolor paper by hand. Using sun exposure, photograms, and transparent negatives, attendees produce unique, organic prints that evolve over time.

The session celebrates slow photography, sustainability, and materiality, offering a hands-on exploration of how natural pigments interact directly with sunlight and time.

Facilitated by Polish-Norwegian photographer Katarzyna Serwatka, this workshop offers a practical method for constructing visual narratives between photographs.

Sifting through physical prints from the open public photo archive Fortepan alongside their own brought images, participants learn to build meaningful pairings based on formal rhyme, scale, and emotional resonance.

Through hands-on editing and guided evaluation criteria, attendees discover how decontextualized images generate new dialogue, leaving with a repeatable framework for sequencing photobook projects, exhibition layouts, and open-call submissions.

San Francisco artist Sky Stevens leads a hands-on exploration of mordançage, a rare alternative process that transforms silver gelatin prints.

Participants learn the historical and chemical foundations of the technique before bleaching and redeveloping black-and-white silver prints in studio trays. By lifting, draping, and altering the emulsion layers, attendees create atmospheric, veil-like physical prints with unique textures.

Designed for photographers interested in experimental printmaking, this session provides step-by-step guidance on turning traditional darkroom prints into one-of-a-kind tactile art objects.

Led by Berlin-based artist and cinematographer Andie Riekstina, this hands-on workshop introduces participants to transferring xerographic laser prints onto clear packing tape using a water-soaking technique.

Attendees combine these translucent tape prints with a classic single-sheet A4 folding method to construct a personalized 8-page mini-zine.

By experimenting with transparency, paper layering, and collage, participants move digital or printed images into a tangible physical object, exploring new dimensions of self-publishing without requiring specialized tools or prior bookmaking experience.

Led by Indian visual artist Ratika Singh, this reflective workshop invites participants to take on the roles of editor and curator using physical prints from her long-term series SAAH.

Guided by breath, color, symbolism, and emotional prompts, attendees build micro-exhibitions and exchange observations with peers.

The session explores what happens when image-makers slow down both the creation and viewing processes, offering photographers, editors, and curators practical tools for intuitive editing, intentional storytelling, and deeper narrative connection.
