Contribute to the Ephemere Photo Library!

  • Photography often strives for permanence, yet a photobook itself is a fragile object—a testament to what time preserves and what it takes away. The Ephemere Photo Library—EPL for short—is a project born from this beautiful paradox, inviting you to contribute to a temporary and traveling archive that celebrates print and the tangible, fleeting nature of the photographic form.

This new initiative, born from the success of our collaboration with Planet of Zines at The Blank Gallery in Harajuku, is designed to be a moving archive that showcases and supports diverse printed works by photographers and independent publishers from around the world.

We invite you to help us continue building the Ephemere Photo Library by sending your physical photography books and zines. Your publications will become a part of a growing visual catalog (already containing over 80 titles from Ephemere and other photographers) and will be exhibited at various events, starting with the Ephemere Photo Fest in Tokyo at Gallery Conceal Shibuya from October 1st to the 12th, 2025.

  • Benefits

Tokyo Showcase — Exhibit your physical publication directly to an international audience at the Ephemere Photo Fest. Throughout the fest, we will also highlight selected titles as "Books/Zines of the Day" on our dedicated shelves to ensure maximum visibility for your work.

Speak About Your Work — If you attend the Ephemere Photo Fest in Tokyo, you'll have the chance to talk about and share your printed work with others through our photobook-centered programs.

Global Exposure & Print Culture — Connect with attendees and fellow artists through Ephemere's extensive network, while contributing to a moving archive that celebrates the pleasure of printed photography.

  • Guidelines

Artists who have published their work in photobook or zine format, either through a publisher or self-published, are welcome. Your participation fee directly supports the Ephemere Photo Library, covering essential costs such as handling, logistics, shelf rental during the Ephemere Photo Fest, and inclusion in our permanent archive.

Once you complete the Submission Form, wait for our email with shipping information, then mail us one (1) physical, printed copy of your photography book or zine with a tracking number. We also encourage all participants to write a handwritten note to insert in their book or zine as a message to viewers and readers.

If you submitted to our previous call, your previously submitted books/zines will automatically be included again in the Ephemere Photo Library. Additionally, if you are participating again this time, you can get 50% off the participation fee, so you only need to pay $10 per title. Please make sure to send a different title from your previous submission.

  • Reminders

You have ample time to send your works! All publications must arrive by September 15th, 2025 (a 40-day window from the launch).

While our goal is to include all received publications, space on our shelves may be limited. Therefore, inclusions will be on a first-come, first-served basis. We reserve the right to close submissions once capacity is reached, even before the deadline.

Publications will be for display only and not for sale during the festival, and they will be archived by Ephemere after the Ephemere Photo Fest, with the possibility of being exhibited again as part of the next Ephemere Photo Library event.
