What is this Open Call about?
An invitation to submit photo essays of 20 to 25 images interpreting Ephemerality—fleeting moments, time, impermanence.
Who can submit?
Photographers and image-based artists worldwide, regardless of style or genre.
Why should you submit?
By participating in Ephemere's Open Call #8, you gain the opportunity for:
Printed Exposure: Consideration to be featured in Ephemere Journal's first printed edition, aiming for distribution of over 2,000 copies globally.
Immersive Showcase: Consideration to exhibit your work physically in our Tokyo group exhibition held in October.
Online Visibility: Increased reach via Ephemere's Instagram (7,000+ followers) and Newsletters (2,000+ subscribers).
Global Community: Connect with an international network of artists and enthusiasts.

How can you participate?
You can choose from the following submission tiers:
Free Submission: $0
Accessibility: We offer a free option for everyone to take part.
Benefits: Qualified for Online Visibility consideration (Instagram Highlights and/or our Online Journal).
Limit: One photo essay per photographer.
Paid Submission Option A: $30
Project Support: Your fee directly fuels our open calls, covering printing, management, and event costs.
Benefits: Qualified for Online Visibility and Printed Exposure (The Ephemere Journal).
Complimentary Copy: Receive 1 complimentary journal copy if selected.
Paid Submission Option B: $60
Project Support: Your fee directly fuels our open calls, covering printing, management, and event costs.
Benefits: Qualified for Online Visibility, Printed Exposure, and an Immersive Showcase (group exhibition in Tokyo).
Complimentary Copies & Print: Receive 3 complimentary journal copies if selected for the journal; includes one A2 or A1 exhibition print if selected for the show.

How are submissions selected?
All photo essays are reviewed by Anne Murayama, Curator & Publisher of Ephemere, based on the following:
Thematic Depth: Clarity and originality of the ephemerality concept.
Narrative Arc: Effectiveness of story through image sequence.
Evocative Power: Ability to stir emotions and create lasting impressions.
What else should you know?
Submission Format: Submit 20-25 images in sequence, conveying a meaningful story related to Ephemerality.
Image & Content Specs: PNG, TIFF, or high-quality JPEG; 3000px long side, 300 dpi. Title, Project Description, and Artist Statement are required; usage of AI writing tools is allowed.
Guidelines & Discretion: Strict adherence to file naming is required (failure may lead to disqualification). Ephemere reserves the right to the final selection, even if all guidelines are met.

Open Call Duration: June 15th — July 15th, 2025 (23:59 JST)
